Journey to the Tournament of Roses Parade

The end January 2, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — emilyounker @ 11:26 am

We are on our way home, passing through Arizona, and should be home Sunday morning. Woke up to piles of snow on the ground. I’d almost forgotten that we are heading back into winter.

This is my last blog post. Thanks to everyone for reading and commenting. I have appreciated your support. Thanks also to Diana Williams and the rest of the staff and chaperones for being so accommodating.

Most of all, thanks to the band kids. I don’t need to tell any of you this, but it’s a great group. Once they got used to the idea of a reporter hanging around, they really embraced me and let me be a part of their group. I had fun hanging with them and watching them show off their talents throughout the week.

Check out Sunday’s Globe forĀ a final story about the trip. We’ll see you soon!

Emily, It’s been so fun to keep up with the Webb City kids on your blog. That’s where I’ve been since 2000. Of course, there are some Joplin kids that really make me proud of them as I watch them flourish in their careers. I’m sure it was reading Rebecca that started you on your journey. HA! Great blog and Globe articles – they (and your public) are blessed to have you.

  9. Stephanie Says:

Very nicely done all the way around. I love how the JOPLIN globe sent a reporter with WEBB CITY where as just a snip it of joplin’s and rivertons performances were mentioned in the paper. I love it !!! GO WEBB CITY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Emily, you are one AWESOME reporter! You kept us up to date and had great pics and comments and the kids loved you! We were so lucky to have you on the trip and you made all of us parents feel like we were right there with the kids! Thank you for a job well done . . . . Now we can only hope that Mr. Negative ( Dave Woods) realizes that positive, uplifting reporting about a wonderful thing (rather than the sensationalistic, negative and hurtful stuff written by a bitter, crazy guy (HYY) that Dave promited and fostered and allowed to be printed is much more helpful and constructive for a community that is so proud of a great program like Webb City’s Band! Yea Emily and a sound ‘boo’ to Dave Woods!

  13. Mary DeLand Says:

Thanks for all the work you did on the blog; we enjoyed seeing the band march down the avenue; we applauded from our armchairs! I’m writing from my home in Tucson, AZ and remembering attending the Rose Parade with my mother, son (age 5) and daughter (age 4) in 1964. What a crowd! I think the parade marshall was Lorne Greene. Bouquets to you!

  14. Michael Oglesby Says:

I echo the comments of everyone. You did a great job….she was even on the bus every time I took roll! :-) And she made every single check in!
